Arizona House of Worship Grows With QSC
Located just north of Phoenix, the new 3,000-seat worship center on the Christ's Church of the Valley (CCV) campus is a sprawling, low-profile structure integrated in harmony with its desert surroundings. The church incorporates three assembly areas ideally suited for conferences, seminars and banquets, a fully-equipped kitchen and complete audio and video production facilities.
Serving a large congregation that rapidly outgrew its old 1,200-seat sanctuary and is still steadily growing, the church called upon El Cajon, Calif.-based Sound Technology Consultants, Inc. to perform an in-depth acoustical study of its new worship center, and then develop a comprehensive audio and video blueprint. Guiding the project for Sound Technology was senior associate Jeff Miller, who, after careful analysis and review, penned a design utilizing QSC amplification across the board. Implementing the plan was a task given to the contracting arm of Sound Image, a pro audio firm now working out of offices in both San Marcos, Calif. and Phoenix.
To bring proper coverage to the worship center's exceptionally wide main sanctuary (the room measures roughly 300 feet from corner to corner), Miller created a cross-matrixed left-center-right system incorporating three main clusters and a pair of delay rings. Power for the sizable rig comes from both QSC's CX and PowerLight Series via an eclectic assortment of amplifiers including CX1102s, CX702s and PowerLight PL6.0s.
"There were many reasons we chose QSC for this application," Miller relates. "We spec them in all kinds of projects, they sound great, always provide the feature sets we need and come in power points we can use. As far as reliability is concerned, we never have issues with them, and that's attractive too. We had total peace of mind knowing the amplifiers would keep on working, doing what we wanted them to do without fail."
Upon opening its doors, the new worship center at Christ's Church of the Valley began hosting four services each weekend. The church was founded in 1982 by Pastor Don Wilson, who began meeting with a small group of worshipers in a rented movie theatre. Today, some 22 years later, CCV supports missions around the world and has been chosen as the site for the National Pastors & Leaders Conference (NPLC) for three years in a row.
