CHICAGO, IL - Celebrating 20 years, the annual summer festival Lollapalooza returned to Grant Park in Chicago for three days with eight stages hosting a variety of live acts, including Foo Fighters, Eminem, Coldplay and Fuse as headliners. At the Perry Stage, where headliners included Girl Talk, Pretty Lights, Modeselektor and The Glitch Mob, Technotrix provided Powersoft amps to power Martin Audio subs.

Technotrix used just six Powersoft K20 DSP+AESOP amplifiers to power 48 Martin Audio WSX single-18 folded horn subwoofers for low-frequency support. The Perry Stage is named after festival founder/Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell. Technotrix also provided sound systems and support two additional stages.

"We have been trying out different subwoofer amplifiers over the past few years, and have had marginal results," said Alex Sostarich, system tech for Technotrix. "We jumped at the opportunity to use Powersoft amplifiers at the event. The ability to run so efficiently down to 2 ohms was a huge plus."

The K20 DSP+AESOP provides up to 18,000 watts in a single rack space, making it Powersoft's most powerful model in its K Series. Each K20 amp powered eight Martin Audio WSX single 18-inch horn-loaded subs.

"We had what seemed like infinite amounts of headroom," Sostarich added. "These amps are by far the most powerful we have ever used."

Sostarich noted that one of the most challenging aspects of the festival was the "almost non-existent changeovers between acts. Knowing we didn't have to worry about the power on the subwoofers helped relieve some of the production stress."
