AES Extends Deadline for Free/Discount Badges

AES Los AngelesLOS ANGELES — Registration for FREE Exhibits-Plus badge and discounted All-Access badges to the Audio Engineering Society show has been extended to Friday, October 3. The AES137 Convention takes place October 9-12, 2014, at the Los Angeles Convention Center, with three days of exhibits and four days of workshops, technical papers and program content tailored to audio professionals.

 FOH engineer Rodrigo Lopez MEXICO CITY – Mexican pop icon Juan Gabriel is touring the U.S. with an SSL Live, the first-ever dedicated live sound console from Solid State Logic. One of Mexico’s most successful vocalists, Gabriel is a Billboard Latin Music Hall of Fame inductee and six-time Grammy nominee who has sold over 30 million albums and performed throughout the world. When his 2014 "Volver" tour prepared for its U.S. leg, front of house engineer Rodrigo Lopez was excited to mix on SSL’s latest innovation.

In Memoriam: Michael Stahl, 68LOS ANGELES — Pro Audio veteran Michael Stahl, 68, died Sept. 20, 2014 after an extended illness. Stahl played a key role at ATK Audiotek, serving as its general manager for nine years, then acquiring the company together with partners Scott Harmala and Mikael Stewart and serving as its president before retiring in 2012. Prior to ATK Audiotek, Stahl held key positions with Maryland Sound International (MSI), Mountain Productions and Clair Brothers.

Outline Powers Italy’s Siren Festival

The brand-new Siren festival made its debut in a small picturesque town on the Abruzzo Adriatic coast in Italy, powered by an Outline sound system. The sound systems increased in size from the Outline DVS enclosures installed for the small stages at the Palazzo d'Avalos gardens and Rotonda Viale Dalmazia, through the Arena delle Grazie, where bands had at their disposal 6+6 Outline Mantas and two DBS 18-2 subs, to the courtyard of the 16th century Palazzo d'Avalos, which was equipped with two main hangs of twelve Mantas systems and six DBS 18-2 subwoofers.

SES Provides MLA System for Zac Brown Band at Wrigley Field. CHICAGO – SES (Special Event Services) set up what president Jim Brammer called “the largest outdoor MLA system deployed in North America thus far” for a sold-out Zac Brown concert that drew 40,000 to Wrigley Field here. With 170 enclosures in all, the setup included a main hang of 22 MLA over 2 MLD per side; 24 MLA Compact per side for outfill; 8 flown MLX subs per side and 24 MLX in 12 stacks of two across the entire downstage area; 4 MLA Compact in a straight array per side for off left/right front fill; 6 W8LMD across the downstage edge for lip fill, and 24 MLA for delays.

South Carolina BMX Track Installs Community Loudspeakers

ROCK HILL, SC – The Novant Health BMX track recently installed Community’s R Series loudspeakers. The setup, designed and installed by Butch Bailey and Keith Ludlam of B&K Pro Audio and Lighting, promises clear voice paging and high-quality music covering the venue, which extends over several acres. The loudspeakers powered by Ashly KLR amplifiers and managed by an Ashly Protea Speaker Processor. The sound system also includes a Behringer Ultra-Zone mixer, a Tascam CD player and Audio Technica 3000 Series wireless microphones.
